Bauhaus, a top European DIY chain, operates 260+ stores across 19 countries. Their Czech site is a leading local DIY retailer, averaging around 1.2 million monthly visits in 2024.
Bauhaus Czechia has been used Prefixbox’s Semantic Search Engine (text-matching based) for over a year. They wanted to see what additional benefits Prefixbox’s AI Search Engine could deliver on their KPIs and user experience, so we conducted an A/B test.
Bauhaus tested Prefixbox’s AI Search Engine against Prefixbox’s fully-optimized Semantic Search Engine.
Prefixbox AI Search Engine users generated 45.3% more Revenue than those using the text-matching based Semantic Seach Engine, along with notable improvements across other KPIs.
Prefixbox conducted an A/B test on Bauhaus Czechia’s online store for one week in 2024 September, in which website visitors were split evenly into two groups (50-50%).
The Control group was shown Prefixbox’s Semantic Search Engine, while the Treatment group was shown Prefixbox’s AI Search Engine utilizing vector search technology.
While Prefixbox typically runs tests for 2-4 weeks, Bauhaus was so impressed by the results after just one week that they requested the AI Search be implemented immediately to start generating additional revenue.
The audience segment that saw Prefixbox AI Search results generated an impressive 45.3% more revenue compared those who saw results returned by the text-matching based Semantic Search Engine.
This remarkable revenue increase was due to the fact that Prefixbox’s AI Search Engine delivers more relevant results.
AI Search users placed orders with a 28.4% higher value on average, making a substantial contribution to the overall revenue uplift.
The treatment segment receiving the AI Search Engine results also made 18.4% more transactions, so orders were not only of higher value but also more frequent.
Prefixbox AI Search users made 10.9% more cart events after using the search than the Control group, signalling that general result relevancy was improved.
The number of clicks on products on the SERP increased 6.1% for shoppers who saw results powered by the AI Search Engine, as the results were more relevant.
